Connect Today

Here to support

Connection is a fundamental aspect of human experience, deeply tied to well-being and mental health. People thrive when they feel connected to others, whether through family, friendships, or communities. For many, meaningful connections provide a sense of belonging, purpose, and support during challenging times. In our work together, fostering connection plays a significant role in supporting you with navigating your mental health struggles.

At Connected Therapy Services, you’ll be welcomed into a safe, comfortable space, where authenticity, compassion, and genuine support are valued and offered to all clients, regardless of circumstance. Together, we will explore and create meaningful goals of therapy that will support you in your well being.  Becoming an active participant in your journey will provide you with a sense of empowerment and feeling of connection with self and the world around you.

" I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgement; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.

- Dr. Brene Brown

Meet The Team

Melanie Taylor

Owner & Therapist | MSW, RSW

Melanie@connectedtherapyservices.com

I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s of Social Work Degree from the University of Calgary, bringing 15 years of experience in supporting diverse populations grappling with mental health, addiction, and trauma. My professional journey spans various settings, including nonprofit organizations and healthcare.

Specializing in anxiety, stress, trauma, and depression, I work with clients who often face feelings of unworthiness, struggle with their self-presentation, and feel overwhelmed by daily pressures. If you feel alone, unable to catch a break, or that life is unnecessarily difficult, know that you don’t have to suffer. Together, we can identify the sources of your distress, delve into deeper issues, and develop skills and solutions to set values-based goals that alleviate suffering.

I have a particular passion for men’s mental health, having observed a significant gap in this area. Understanding the unique challenges and societal pressures men face today, I offer a compassionate and expert space for men to explore their emotions, navigate life transitions, and build resilience.

I firmly believe that people do the best they can with the knowledge and resources they have. Often, circumstances beyond their control may prevent them from thriving. My empathetic and compassionate approach aims to support clients in gaining a better understanding of themselves and their experiences, fostering growth and self-discovery. I look forward to accompanying you on this journey.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to treat symptoms of psychological trauma and other mental health issues. It integrates principles from several established therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and imagery rescripting.

ART has been shown to be effective for a range of conditions, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, and grief. It provides a structured and focused approach, making it an appealing option for individuals seeking a fast-acting therapy with lasting results.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Informed

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, along with commitment and behaviour change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. Developed in the late 1980s by Steven C. Hayes, ACT encourages individuals to accept what is out of their personal control and commit to action that improves and enriches their life.

ACT aims to help individuals live a meaningful life while handling the pain and stress that life inevitably brings. By fostering acceptance and mindfulness, ACT helps clients to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions and instead work towards living a value-driven life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a widely used evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and modifying dysfunctional thoughts, behaviours, and emotional responses. CBT is effective for a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.

CBT provides a structured and practical approach to helping clients understand and change their thought patterns and behaviours. It can be particularly beneficial for clients who are struggling with unworthiness, daily pressures, and the need to show up differently in their lives.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is a specific type of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) primarily used to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related anxiety disorders. ERP helps individuals gradually confront their fears (exposure) while refraining from engaging in compulsive behaviours (response prevention) that typically follow those fears.

ERP is considered one of the most effective treatments for OCD, and it can also be beneficial for anxiety, panic disorders, and even some trauma-related conditions.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioural therapy that was originally developed to treat individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). It has since been adapted for other mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.

DBT focuses on providing therapeutic skills in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

DBT is characterized by a balance between acceptance and change. It teaches clients to accept their current situation and emotions while working towards positive change. DBT can be particularly useful for clients struggling with intense emotions, self-destructive behaviours, or challenging interpersonal relationships.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a psychotherapeutic approach based on the concept that the mind is composed of multiple sub-personalities or “parts,” each with its own perspectives, feelings, and roles within the individual’s internal system. IFS aims to help individuals understand and harmonize these parts, leading to healing and self-discovery.

IFS can be particularly effective for individuals dealing with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. By fostering a compassionate and non-judgmental internal environment, clients can work towards self-healing and greater psychological well-being.
